Consumer Report Car Seats
When you are buying a car seat for your child, you should be aware of the consumer report put out on the car seat that you are buying. Every year car seats are tested by individual manufacturers and by the government to make sure they hold up to a certain standard. That standard is then put into a consumer report study on car seats.
A car seat is something that is not only a law to have, but it should be high on your list of safest items to own. Not only will your child need a car seat from the time they get out of the hospital, but up until the age of 4 for regular facing car seats and then up to 8 or 10 in some states for booster seats.
There are three different types of car seats that have a consumer report attached to them. They are infant seats which are the rear-facing seats for babies up to 22 pounds, the convertible seats which are front facing seats up to 40 pounds, and then the booster seats for children between 40 and 80 pounds.
Each new car seat that you get while the child gets older, whether it is infant, convertible, or booster should be measured according to the consumer report car seat standard. That means, if you get a new one, or it is time to move into another seat then you should consult the report again to get a new idea of car seats have changed since the last time you read it.
The car seat consumer report is done every year because of the influx of new laws that come about, or systems such as the 3-point or 5-point harness system for infant seats. Car seats also fairly recently came out with the travel system car seats which offer the car seat and the stroller in one, so that you can simply lift the car seat out and put it directly in the stroller. You create a carriage type of effect by snapping the infant seat into the stroller.
The car seat consumer report also talks about the value of each one so that you know which car seat is not only the safest, but the most bang for the buck. Contrary to popular belief, the safest car seat is not always the one that has the most add-ons, or the big brand name. There are plenty of budget friendly car seats that are rated as some of the best car seats on the market.
The consumer report that comes out on car seats tests every single car seat on the market, and then gives a rating of passing or failing with individual marks given if it was a superior product. There are a large number of car seats available to you to choose from, and considering that car seats are something that can save your child from death, you need to be aware of the consumer report on the car seat you choose.
With more than 100 children killed each year in accidents, it is wonderful that we have consumer reports on car seats to let us as consumers know which one is safest for our children, otherwise we might be putting our children in harms way, without even knowing it.
